Our mission is simple: to bring inspiring musical experiences to everyone, everywhere.

So how does the BBC Concert Orchestra achieve this? Our versatility is the key.

You’ll hear us on the world’s longest-running live music programme, BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night, most weeks. It’s old school radio made live with audiences who love its mix of stars, new talent and the big occasion.

Over on BBC Radio 3 we search out the unusual and quirky, profile classical masterpieces and never forget to entertain. This year as an Associate Orchestra at the Southbank Centre we have presented Alistair McGowan in 1920’s Paris, maverick organist Cameron Carpenter in a Terry Riley UK premiere, British Jazz commissions at the EFG London Jazz Festival and Finnish music of various hues with Värttinä. And coming up? The Oliviers in Concert – a celebration of 40 years of the very best of musical theatre.

Listen out for the orchestra on TV; it’s us on the soundtracks of The Paradise and Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell to name but two. And this autumn you’ll see us on the big screen too, in the film of Alan Bennett’s The Lady in the Van.

And what about the world’s largest classical music festival, the BBC Proms? We are there every summer, both in the Royal Albert Hall and Hyde Park for the party that is Proms in the Park.

We love to get out and about in the UK and beyond – from King’s Lynn to Kentucky in recent months. We play regularly in Chichester and Watford and opera fans can catch us at Grange Park Opera near Winchester. We also make commercial recordings, most recently for Dutton, Chandos and Decca.

In the east and south west of England we are bringing BBC Music’s phenomenon Ten Pieces to school-age children and have produced Singing for the Brain sessions with the Alzheimer’s Society. Also for BBC Music, we were at Earls Court for the inaugural BBC Music awards and appeared as the “impossible orchestra” alongside 27 star performers in the film and CD release of God Only Knows.

It goes without saying that you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter and our website is where you will find our performances, clips, galleries and more. So visit to get involved and start discovering music with us.
