NEW MUSIC: A Concordant Approach

Wednesday 29 September 2004, Canadian High Commission, London

A symposium dedicated to developing a shared manifesto for contemporary classical music presented by the ABO with ACCORD - The Alliance for New Music in association with the Canadian High Commission supported by the Performing Right Society.

CAN VISUAL ART SHOW NEW MUSIC THE WAY?

Norman Rosenthal, the Royal Academy of Art's Exhibition Secretary will provide an insight in the world of contemporary art during an ABO symposium in central London on Wednesday 29 September 2004.  Dedicated to developing a shared manifesto for contemporary classical music and strengthening the infrastructure and possibilities open to those working in the contemporary classical music sphere, New Music: A Concordant Approach, is presented by the ABO with ACCORD - The Alliance for New Music in association with the Canadian High Commission supported by the Performing Right Society.

Leading professionals across the new music sphere will stimulate a series of round-table and open-floor discussions, bringing together representatives from all sectors of the business including orchestras, ensembles, composers, publishers, broadcasters, record labels and educationalists to focus on information-sharing and brainstorming ideas for development and growth in the sector.  The focus of the symposium will be on discussion between participants and it is hoped that the outcomes will generate ideas and information which can then be used to lobby for increased resources and a higher profile for new music.

Other speakers include:
Michael Berkeley Composer
David Butcher Chief Executive, Britten Sinfonia
Chris Craker Director, Independent Music & Media Alliance, Record Producer and Consultant to Sanctuary Records and Gramophone
Sally Groves Head of Contemporary Music, Schott & Co Ltd
Andrew Kurowski Executive Producer for New Music, BBC Radio 3
Colin Matthews Composer
Gillian Moore MBE Artistic Director, London Sinfonietta and Project Manager, Music Audience Development, Royal Festival Hall
David Whelton Managing Director, Philharmonia Orchestra

Networking also forms a key part of the day with a drinks reception following the event in the wonderful surroundings of the High Commissioner's Salon within Canada House.  Delegate places are still available at £15+VAT for ABO Members and £25+VAT for all others.  Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
