English Sinfonia’s new record label ES digital releases its first single in support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer. All profits from the sales of Towards the Dawn go to the charity.
English Sinfonia combines the experience of one of the oldest chamber orchestras in the UK with inventive programming, carrying classical music into 21st century life. The orchestra’s philosophy is that music should have no boundaries and its imaginative formula of performing widely contrasting shorter new works alongside exisiting repertoire is particularly appropriate for today’s audiences. English Sinfonia embraces the ‘new’, never compromising on quality of performance or programme content. The orchestra, made up of some our most successful and highly sought-after musicians, is working with pioneering British composers to develop and expand the chamber orchestra repertoire with appealing and commercially viable new works. October 2007 saw the start of a new residency for the Orchestra at the North Wall Arts Centre in Oxford. This vibrant new space opened its doors to the public in July 2007 when Lord Attenborough, George Fenton and Michael Attenborough cut the ribbon to launch the first Summer Festival. Not only is the North Wall an exciting and intimate venue for a chamber orchestra, it is also dedicated to education and making the arts accessible to the wider community, a commitment shared by the English Sinfonia and we have plans for an exciting education programme to be run alongside the concert series.
