Apollo Chamber Orchestra

About the Member

The Apollo Chamber Orchestra prizes flexibility of approach, beauty of sound and a positive attitude towards music making. The orchestra has given many concerts, mainly in London, and its CD recordings include an award-winning recording of Mendelssohn's Scottish and Italian Symphonies. The ACO has a long and fruitful relationship with Poems on the Underground which has resulted in a popular series of concerts, CD recordings and a children's book featuring Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals with new poems and illustrations by Satoshi Kitamura. The ACO and conductor David Chernaik are committed to music education, and in particular using the power of music to cross divides and communicate directly to listeners, whatever their age or background. The orchestra provides the musicians for a ground-breaking music education programme in primary and special schools in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, run by Apollo Music Projects. Plans for the future include expanding its education work and further concerts with Poems on the Underground.
