London Symphony Orchestra are the initiators of what is now the most successful orchestra own-label in the world, with 1m CDs sold over 8 years.
The London Symphony Orchestra is resident at the Barbican. Each year the Orchestra performs and promotes over 100 classical music concerts and LSO Discovery music education events at the Barbican and at LSO St Luke's, the UBS and LSO Music Education Centre on Old Street, London. LSO Discovery, the Orchestra's community and education programme brings more than 35,000 people into contact with the LSO's music and musicians each year, making it one of the biggest and most successful programmes of its kind.
The Orchestra tours about 15 times a year, giving classical music concerts all over the world.
During its history the LSO has made literally thousands of recordings, including over 100 film soundtracks, such as Star Wars, Henry V, Brief Encounter, Harry Potter and Braveheart. The LSO also runs its own highly acclaimed classical music CD label, LSO Live, which has won several international awards since its launch in 2000, including Grammy Awards and Classical Brits.
The Orchestra is taking its world class quality and access mission to ever-greater lengths, re-defining the role of the Orchestra in its second century. Always inventive and dynamic, the LSO has led the way in orchestral development and initiative.
