The ABO and IAMA jointly held a workshop on Thursday 4 June at the Royal Albert Hall, which examined the complex issue of withholding tax for orchestras and artist managers when arranging tours to Germany. A panel of experts answered questions such as:
- How do we avoid double taxation?
- Are the rules being applied consistently across Germany?
- What documentation do we need to supply?
- Are there any exemptions?
It also looked at how Withholding Tax is applied in Germany in comparison with other European countries, what the European Courts are doing to bring Germany in to line with European treaties, and how Withholding Tax should be applied in relation to UK taxation.
These and more was discussed at what was an essential workshop for anyone contemplating a tour to Germany.
Speakers included Thorsten Vree, PriceWaterhouseCoopers AG; Karen Clark, Baker Tilly; Burkhard Glashoff, Konzertdirektion Schmid; Dr. Dick Molenaar, All Arts Tax Advisers.
